2016 was an adventurous year for me. I was fortunate to travel to eight countries (including first-time trips to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cuba). Between jobs, I spent nine weeks backpacking through Southeast Asia, which was the longest time I've ever spent traveling at once. For seven of those weeks I traveled solo, another first for me.
Looking back on the past year, I am proud of myself for mustering the courage to travel through Asia alone, something I probably wouldn't have done a few years ago. And I was never truly "alone"—while there were a few lonely times, I also met many incredible people along the way, and I gained perspective on how fortunate I am to have the freedom, time, and money to see the world.
The second half of 2016 was more difficult for me personally, but it's been another reminder to be grateful for good times and people in my life. I'm turning to 2017 with positive thoughts, looking forward to more adventures and hoping to find contentment in everyday moments.
I tried my best to cut down a year's worth of photos into a reasonable amount. While I see a lot of room for improvement as a photographer, I treasure these pictures for their happy memories.
